I found Harrison's book well worth the purchase price. Frankly, he is one of the few authors dealing with church leadership, who writes for those attempting to lead traditional congregations to discover a sense of mission, restructure to embrace that mission, and survive or even thrive throughout the process. Harrison draws on a wide range of materials, provides meaningful exercises, and uses stories well. His section on "Improvisational Leaders" is worth the price of the book. Drawing on the work of Alan Roxburgh and Jason Byassee, Harrison argues that the Christian life and Christian leadership is like improvisational acting rather than script acting. Such leadership actually demands intense preparation, so that we are ready to recognize and deal with the unexpected and turn it into opportunities. Also, do not neglect the "Afterword," in which Harrison deals with a key question: "Will we know the future when we see it?" His five words of advice with regard to the question are practical, insightful and doable.
